Zonveer ZX3
A 2,800W hub-motor dirt bike with turn signals, a headlight, a horn, mirrors and working pedals bolted on from the factory. Zonveer claims 37 mph — we measured 32 on GPS with Ben (about 200 lbs) aboard, throttle only.

What The Pedals Are Actually Worth

The Pedal Defence
Ben's angle for this review.
Pedals Don't Make It Legal
A 2,800W motor sits outside every US e-bike class, pedals or not. What the pedals and power mode one do is let you lock the bike to 20 mph on throttle or pedal — "if someone's giving you the stink eye for riding a motorcycle on a bike trail, well, you can easily just pedal your little butt off and stay within the speed limit." Check your own state's laws before riding it on the street.
Mode One Has a Cadence Sensor
Spin the cranks in power mode one and the motor helps: "like right away up to 20 miles an hour... this is a cadence sensor, so I literally just have to make sure the bike sees that the cranks are rotating."
With No Power At All, It's a Different Story
Ben tried pedaling it in power mode zero, no motor help: "this is the heaviest feeling pedaling sensation I have ever had on any electric bike... it's just not geared for it whatsoever." Don't plan on cranking this one home on a dead battery.

Power & Speed
2,800W and three speed-capped modes.
110 Nm Through a Hub Motor
Zonveer calls it a 2,800W hub motor at 48V with 110 Nm of torque. On our hill climb it held 18 to 19 mph up roughly a 15% grade, throttle only, in power mode 3.
Three Modes: 20 / 28 / 37 mph
Zonveer's own naming is Commute, Cruise and Trail. Mode one locks the bike to 20 mph, mode two to 28, and mode three removes the cap — Zonveer claims 37 mph there. On GPS, throttle only, Ben (about 200 lbs) measured 32.
0–20 mph in 6.5 Seconds
Measured on GPS in power mode 3. Zonveer doesn't publish an acceleration figure of its own to compare it against.

Brakes
Big rotors, and a discrepancy worth a tape measure.
203mm Rotors, 4-Piston Calipers
Ben measured and called out 203mm rotors on camera: "these are some of the thickest rotors I've ever seen." Zonveer's own blog lists 220mm for the same bike. The card here follows what's on the video; measure yours before you take either number as gospel.
Stopped With Room to Spare
Our brake test runs from 28 mph to a marked distance. The ZX3 stopped inside about 20 feet: "I got room for another bike, a full other bike, very, very nicely done."
19-Inch Wheels, Same Front and Rear
70/100 Chaoyang knobby tires, identical front and rear.
Security & Ride Modes
Tap To Lock, Tap To Ride — NFC + PIN
NFC card + PIN + three speed-capped modes
Zonveer's own line is "Tap to Lock. Tap to Ride." — an NFC card plus a PIN wakes the bike, and neither the throttle nor the pedal-assist motor will engage without it.
From there, three power modes set a hard speed cap: 20 mph in mode one, 28 in mode two, and mode three removes the ceiling (37 mph claimed, 32 measured on our GPS). Mode one is the one Ben demonstrates for the legal angle — it caps the bike at 20 mph whether you're on the throttle or the pedals.

Size & Fittings
Zonveer ZX3 19″ front · 19″ rear
Zonveer's own dimension graphic from their product page. Ben didn't tape-measure the bike on camera, so these are the manufacturer's numbers, not verified ones.
Will It Fit You?
- Recommended rider height5'1″ – 6'5″ (Zonveer)
- Max rider load265 lbs (120 kg) (Zonveer)
- Bike weightAbout 130 lbs (Zonveer's listing, not weighed on camera)
- Wheels19″ front / 19″ rear, same tire both ends
- Ben's height and weight (for reference)5'9″, about 200 lbs
Ben rode it at 5'9″ and about 200 lbs, comfortably inside Zonveer's recommended height range and under the 265 lb load limit. Seat height, standover and wheelbase aren't published by Zonveer and weren't tape-measured on camera for this review, so they're left off this page rather than guessed.
Plan Your Ride
Your Range, Not Mine
Ben's 20-mile number was throttle only, power mode 3, close to 200 lbs on board. Pedaling more, riding gentler, or a lighter rider will all stretch it further — set your own numbers below.

The Bike Cave Verdict
Ben's Final Thoughts
“Who should buy the Zonveer ZX3? Like I said a couple times throughout the video, if you're looking for a very, very good off-road bike that looks like an e-moto but can be perfectly legal anywhere you take it by just putting it into power mode number one, you're going to be locked at 20 miles an hour, throttle or pedal. They're selling this thing right now on their website for $1,399. It's a really decent deal, a decent price for a pretty well put together bike. But at $1,399 it is absolutely mind blowing to me that right now they can give this bike for $1,399.”
Ben did not give the ZX3 a Cave Score in the review, so there is no number here.
👍 What Ben liked
- Full street kit — turn signals, headlight, horn, mirrors — that most bikes on this shelf skip entirely
- Power mode 1 locks the bike to 20 mph on throttle or pedal, Ben's legal angle for the video
- 110 Nm hub motor held 18–19 mph up a ~15% grade in power 3
- Brakes stopped from 28 mph "with room for another bike"
- $1,399 sale price against Zonveer's own $1,799 — "a pretty well put together bike" for the money
👎 What to know
- Pedaling with the battery dead is the heaviest pedaling feel Ben has had on any electric bike — don't count on the cranks to get you home
- ~20 miles measured range on throttle only, well under Zonveer's 40–45 mile claim for that mode
- Rotor size disagrees with itself: 203mm on camera, 220mm on Zonveer's own blog
- No certification (like UL 2849) is claimed anywhere on Zonveer's product page
Frequently asked questions
How fast is the Zonveer ZX3?
Zonveer rates it at 37 mph. On our GPS, with Ben (5'9", about 200 lbs) riding throttle only in power mode 3, it reached 32 mph. 0 to 20 mph took 6.5 seconds.
Can you actually pedal the ZX3?
Yes, but it depends on the power mode. In power mode one, a cadence sensor gives you motor assist up to 20 mph just by turning the cranks. With the bike in power mode zero (no power at all), Ben called it the heaviest-feeling pedaling sensation he has had on any electric bike, and said the bike is not geared for it. Don't plan on pedaling this one home on a dead battery.
How far does the ZX3 actually go on a charge?
Zonveer claims 40 to 45 miles on pure electric power, up to 65 miles with pedal assist. Ben rode about 19 to 20 miles on throttle only in power mode 3 and hit the last blinking battery bar. Pedaling more or riding in a lower mode would stretch that further.
Does having pedals make the ZX3 street legal?
Not by itself. A 2,800W motor is outside every US e-bike class regardless of the pedals. What the pedals and power mode one do is let you lock the bike to 20 mph on throttle or pedal, which is the angle Ben demonstrates on camera. Check your own state and local laws before riding it on the street.
Is there a Zonveer discount code?
Yes. Code BikeCave takes 10% off at zonveermoto.com.
