Aventon Aventure M

The mid-drive Aventure, fully tested: 29 mph on GPS, well over 30 miles of real-world range, a nearly silent 100Nm A100 motor with AutoShift, and the best brakes Ben has tested on any ebike this year. It ate sand for breakfast.

Pedal assist only, no throttle, and it still hit 21 mph before the driveway marker in turbo. “At 29 I just felt like I hit a wall with the bike's power. So 28 miles per hour confirmed.”

17.6 miles in, the UL-certified 20Ah battery still had 55% left with 17.7 miles of range showing — well over 30 miles total on this ride.

A sustained roughly 15% grade, climbed with no drama. “Just motoring up this thing. No problem. Barely working at all, just moving my legs.”

Stopped with over a bike length to spare inside the 20 ft marker on SRAM four-piston hydraulics. “The bike actually lifted up the rear wheel. I did a nose manual to come to a stop.”

About these numbers: all of them were measured on camera in the full review with a roughly 190 lb rider aboard — GPS-verified top speed, a marked 20 ft braking zone, and a real ride on the range test with the supplied 4 amp charger topping off the 20Ah battery.

The Engineering

Mid-Drive Balance, Fat-Tire Capability

Low-Slung Mid-Drive

Low-Slung Mid-Drive

Aventon A100 · 100 Nm

Centred Weight

A mid-drive motor puts the weight low and central, so the Aventure M handles and climbs more like a natural bike than a hub-drive fat bike.

100Nm Of Torque

The A100 mid-drive makes 100Nm — strong, planted climbing power that plays through the gears.

Class-Flexible

It ships as a Class 1 pedal-assist bike and can be configured up to Class 2/3 depending on where you ride.

Electronic 10-Speed

Electronic 10-Speed

Shimano Cues · AutoShift

AutoShift

Shimano Cues 10-speed with an electronic shifter can shift for you, keeping the mid-drive in its sweet spot automatically.

85-Mile Range

A 36V 20Ah 733Wh LG-cell battery stretches to up to 85 miles — the longest range in the fat-tire line.

Auto Mode

Terrain-sensing Auto Mode adapts assist to the ground under you for a smoother, smarter ride.

Stops, Safety & Smarts

Stops, Safety & Smarts

ACU · SRAM hydraulic

SRAM DB4 Hydraulics

SRAM DB4 hydraulic discs with a 200mm front rotor give the mid-drive fat bike serious stopping power.

Weatherproofed

An IPX6 bike rating (IP67 motor) means it shrugs off wet-weather riding.

ACU Smart Bike

GPS, 4G, geofencing and an integrated rear-wheel lock come built in.

BC280 Display + Electronic Shifting + Auto Mode

The Aventure M pairs the BC280 display with an electronic Shimano Cues drivetrain, so you can let AutoShift and Auto Mode manage gears and assist while you just ride.

Full ACU connectivity, over-the-air updates and a low-maintenance mid-drive make this the most modern, hands-off bike in the Aventure family.

The Bike Cave Verdict

Ben's Take

I know this bike isn't cheap, but you really get what you pay for with ebikes, and the build quality on the Aventure M is super premium. The mid drive motor is one of the most silent I have ever had the pleasure of riding, quieter than the motor on my $10,000 mountain bike, and the electronic auto shifting is blowing my mind on a bike in the $2,000 range. The SRAM four piston hydraulic brakes are the best set of brakes I've tested on any ebike this year, lifting the rear wheel into a nose manual from 28 mph. It ate sand for breakfast on the beach with zero effort on my part, and this is by far the highest quality fat tire ebike frame I've ever seen. If you want to get outside, pedal, and get into better shape on loose terrain like sand and snow, this is the bike to get.

👍 What stands out

  • Nearly silent mid-drive, quieter than his $10,000 mountain bike's motor
  • AutoShift and electronic shifting, the most accurate he's had on a bike
  • SRAM DB4 four-piston hydraulics, the best brakes he's tested on any ebike this year
  • Highest quality fat-tire ebike frame he's ever seen, with super clean welds
  • Ate sand for breakfast on the beach, the easiest time through loose sand this year
  • Came perfectly tuned from the factory, no adjustments needed

👎 What to know

  • Seat post clamp creaks and needs grease (easy fix)
  • No throttle included, pedal assist only (sold separately, plugs into a hidden cable)
  • No front turn signals, only in the back
  • Quite the investment, and he'd swap the plastic pedals and suspension seat post over time
