Biktrix Rogue Hawk

A 70V full-suspension rear-hub e-bike in two frame sizes, with four-piston 203 mm brakes and a 20Ah battery. Ben’s read: a quality bike and a strong Wired Freedom rival, with less battery.

The Engineering

What Makes The Biktrix Rogue Hawk Tick

Biktrix Rogue Hawk Motor & Battery

Motor & Battery

Hentach hub, 70V 20Ah, 5A charger

Geared hub, metal-reinforced

A Hentach hub with metal-reinforced gears, 1,500W nominal and about 3,300W peak, like the ones on the Wired bikes but at higher voltage.

70V 20Ah in the frame

Charging takes about 4 hours on the 5A charger. A second battery plate and a pre-wired port are ready for a range extender, which Biktrix sells.

Quick cadence sensor

Power arrives in about half a second of pedalling, and the throttle is instant. Ben crawled at 11 mph on a few hundred watts.

Biktrix Rogue Hawk Frame & Suspension

Frame & Suspension

Full suspension, two frame sizes

Coil shock with rebound

A beefy coil shock with preload and rebound adjustment. At 190 lb Ben got “perfect travel” from it.

Quiet, tight fork

A lockout fork with no clunks. Ben says an air fork would be the only improvement.

Two sizes

A 16-inch frame on 24 x 3 tires fits riders from 5'2" (Biktrix), and an 18-inch frame on 26 x 4 fits from 5'6". Ben rode the medium step-through.

Biktrix Rogue Hawk Brakes & Tires

Brakes & Tires

Four-piston 203 mm hydraulics, Chaoyang tires

Four-piston 203 mm discs

“I wish every e-bike would have a setup like this.” Ben stopped at the 20 ft marker from 28 to 30 mph, skidding most of the way.

Chaoyang tires

“Mediocre at everything.” The 24 x 3 is lively and quiet on the road, but dug into wet beach sand more than a 4-inch tire would.

Metal fenders and rack

Metal fenders and a rack bolted into the rear triangle, with an integrated brake light.

The Bike Cave Verdict

Ben’s Take

As soon as you step into the $2,000 range, e-bikes now are getting so good. They just feel like such quality bikes.
If you can afford a bike in this price point, there’s not much else that’s better than this.
I think they made a strong contender to the Wired Freedom and the Wired Cruiser.
Ben — The Bike CaveFull verdict in the video review

Ben did not give this bike a Cave Score in the review, so there is no number here.

What I liked

  • Strong hill climb: 30 mph up a 15% hill
  • Responsive throttle and a quick cadence sensor
  • Four-piston 203 mm brakes
  • Coil shock with rebound that Ben calls close to perfect
  • Two frame sizes, so shorter riders fit
  • Easy assembly: the brakes were centred out of the box

What to know

  • 36 mph on the GPS was a little less than Ben expected
  • 20Ah is 15Ah less than the Wired bikes at the same price
  • Chaoyang tires are mediocre at everything
  • Screen is hard to read in polarized glasses
  • Geared hub is a little loud
  • Ben calls it a bike for intermediate riders, not beginners

Frequently asked questions

How fast is the Biktrix Rogue Hawk?

Ben saw 36 mph on his phone GPS, with the throttle and again with pedal assist 5, at about 190 lb. He expected a little more and says it might be limited somehow.

How far does the Rogue Hawk go on a charge?

Ben was 25.1 miles in with 47% left, and reckoned about 50 miles. The battery is 70V 20Ah (1,400 Wh), and a $749 range extender adds more.

How well does the Rogue Hawk climb hills?

Ben held 30 mph up a 15% hill, throttle only, after reaching 29 mph before the hill began.

What sizes does the Rogue Hawk come in?

A 16-inch medium frame on 24 x 3 tires, for riders from 5'2", and an 18-inch large frame on 26 x 4 tires, for riders from 5'6" (Biktrix). Both come step-through, and the large also comes step-over.

Is the Rogue Hawk a good Wired Freedom alternative?

Ben calls it a strong contender. It has more voltage and a smaller frame option, but a 20Ah battery against the Wired bikes’ 35Ah at a similar price.
