I haven't ridden the X1S on camera yet, but it reads like the sweet spot of the Macfox range — a punk-styled 20-inch fat-tire commuter that fixes the M16's two biggest limits with hydraulic brakes and an optional second battery for up to 56 miles. You still get a 500W (750W peak) hub and a 20 mph Class-2 cruise, plus UL-2849 safety and a clean, customisable frame, from $1,399. It's single-speed, so it's a throttle-and-go city bike rather than a hill-climbing pedaler, but for stylish, low-fuss commuting it looks like strong value. Full ride review to come.
