Throttle only, 190 lb rider, 100% battery, flat road. The bike's own computer touched 50. “49 mph on the GPS. The bike's computer did go up to 50, so there might be a little bit here and there — but man, 50 mph on a bike, come on.”
Climb mode unlocks 110% torque — a full 200 Nm — and caps out around 28 mph. “Oh my god. Yep, they're not kidding. I haven't ridden a bike this smooth in a long time — and this thing is silent.”
From the lamp pole to the driveway pull-out, in climb mode, no pedalling. “Oh yeah — 20 miles an hour already. Like the bike stopped me. The power stopped before I even got to the pull-out.”
Quad-piston Star Union calipers, 203 mm rotors, dry pavement. “Did you guys see that? I have another bike length left. This by far is one of the best braking performances out of any bike I've tested here.”

Ben's Take
I told you guys when the ride started that I'd do my best to find something wrong with this bike — and it's been really, really hard. The frame is hydroformed, there are no welds anywhere, and the rear linkage is insanely stiff side to side but insanely buttery up and down. The whole electrical system is Bafang, designed as one cohesive unit instead of a random frame with a bunch of random parts slapped together to call an eBike. And it's quiet — you hear the tires and the rotors before you hear the motor. It stopped inside 20 feet from 30 mph, it did 49 on the GPS, and I put 26.4 miles on it before the battery even dropped below two thirds. The one thing I found all day is the rear battery moving a little on the rack, and that's a strip of foam tape away from fixed. This is my best do-it-all bike of 2025, bar none — just respect what it is at 130-odd pounds and 50 mph. Ride safe and ride responsibly.

How fast is the Magician Alpha, really?
49 mph on GPS in Ben's testing. It ships set to Class 2, which caps assist at 20 mph, and the Bafang display lets you move it to Class 1, Class 3 or unlimited. In Class 2 the assist levels run Climb 8, Stealth 10, Eco 13, Trail 16 and Boost 20 mph.
Is the Magician Alpha street legal?
Unlocked, no — at 5,000W peak and 49 mph it's outside the US e-bike class system, and Magician sells it for off-road and private-property use. Left in the Class 2 setting it ships in, it behaves like a legal Class 2 e-bike in most states. The setting is yours to choose, and so is the responsibility.
What range does the Alpha actually get?
Magician claims up to 80 miles. Ben measured 50 to 60 miles riding it hard, and on the review ride he covered 26.4 miles before the 2,160Wh dual pack even dropped below two thirds. That gap between 80 and 50 is what riding fast costs you, and it's the honest number to budget around.
How well does the Magician Alpha stop?
Better than anything else Ben had tested at the time: it stopped inside 20 feet from 30 mph. That's Star Union quad-piston hydraulic calipers on 203mm rotors with motor cutoffs, which is the brake spec a bike this fast and this heavy needs. The frame is stable enough that Ben rode it hands-off at 48 mph with no speed wobble.
Will the Alpha fit you?
Magician rates it for riders from 5'4" to 6'4", and it comes in step-thru and step-over frames. The saddle has around 10 inches of post adjustment, so at 5'9" Ben could drop it low enough to flat-foot the bike. Maximum payload is 450 lbs, and the bike itself is 139 lbs with both batteries in, 106 lbs without.
Alpha or Alpha Mini?
Same 72V Bafang system, same 2,160Wh dual battery, and the Alpha now undercuts the Mini by $100. The Alpha runs 26-inch fat tires, 200 Nm and a 5'4" to 6'4" fit — it's the full-size, do-it-all version. The Alpha Mini runs 20-inch wheels, 180 Nm and fits riders from 5'0", so it's the pick for shorter riders and anyone who wants the shorter, flickier bike.
