Motor Goat MD
The Motor Goat, rebuilt around the King Goat's 72V mid-drive. 5,000W rated and 12,000W peak, 380 Nm, two Samsung packs in the box for 50Ah, Kinetic Energy Recovery, and a stripped-down look with nothing on it that doesn't need to be there.
Dial In Your Ride
Four Drive Modes
GOAT ships every MD locked to Class 2: 20 mph on the throttle, 25 mph with the pedals. The 75 mph figure is GOAT's unlocked, off-road number. Ranges are GOAT's and depend on rider weight, terrain and how hard you lean on it.

The Motor Goat MD is coming to the channel
GOAT is sending one over. Ben will do what he does with every bike: GPS the top speed at a real rider weight, run the hill, measure the braking and burn the battery down to see what the range actually is. Until then, treat everything on this page as the manufacturer's numbers.

What's Under It

Motor & Drive
Patent-pending 72V mid-drive, 12,000W peak.
5,000W Rated, 12,000W Peak
The King Goat's custom mid-drive, rated at 5,000W and peaking at 12,000W by GOAT's numbers, driving the rear wheel through the chain so the gearing multiplies torque on the way to the ground.
380 Nm Of Torque
GOAT quotes 380 Nm at the motor, up from 320 on the 40Ah King Goat. That's the difference between a bike that gets going and a bike that climbs anything you point it at.
Kinetic Energy Recovery
Regen that isn't tied to the brake lever. Any time the motor isn't driving, coasting or slowing, it turns generator and feeds charge back into the pack.

Battery & Power
72V, charged by UL-certified 84V chargers.
Two Samsung packs, 50Ah total
A 72V 30Ah Samsung 50S pack lives in the frame and a second 72V 20Ah tank-style pack sits on top, both in the box. Fifty amp-hours at 72 volts works out to roughly 3,600 Wh.
The Weight Of It
The frame pack weighs 62 lbs and the tank pack 27 lbs, which is most of the reason the bike is 217 lbs.
3–4 Hour Charge
Two 84V 8A UL chargers come in the box, one per pack, and GOAT quotes three to four hours to full.

Chassis & Brakes
Motorcycle parts, not bicycle parts.
Trama Inverted Fork
An inverted motorcycle-style fork with 100mm of travel up front, the same unit that made the King Goat feel planted at speed in Ben's review.
Fastace Rear Suspension
A Fastace dual-absorbing rear shock with a damping hinge, 80mm of travel and a 50mm stroke, tuned for the weight of a 72V pack.
Karasawa 4-Piston DOT Brakes
Motorcycle-rated four-piston hydraulic discs running DOT fluid, front and rear, on self-repairing puncture-resistant tubeless Innova tires in 110/90-16.
How It Rides
A Motor Goat With A Mid-Drive
Four modes, Class 2 out of the box (P / Eco / Normal / Sport)
The MD drops the hub motor the Motor Goat V3 was famous for and runs the King Goat's patent-pending mid-drive through the chain instead. That is where the 380 Nm comes from: gearing multiplies torque, so it climbs and launches in a way a hub motor at the same wattage can't.
Kinetic Energy Recovery works like regen braking but isn't tied to the brake lever. Any time the motor isn't driving the wheel, coasting included, it feeds charge back into the packs. Modes cycle through P, Eco, Normal and Sport, and the bike ships locked to Class 2 speeds until you unlock it for off-road use.

Will It Fit You?
- Seat height34" (short seat)
- L × W × H75 × 30 × 44"
- Wheelbase55"
- Ground clearance9"
- Weight (both packs)217 lbs
- Weight limit440 lbs
Same 34-inch seat height and 55-inch wheelbase as the King Goat, so it rides tall and long. The short seat is the only seat option on the MD; the Power Goat MD is the one to look at if you want a passenger.
Plan Your Ride
Your Range, Not Theirs
Both packs are in the box, so pick the combined 50Ah or run the frame pack alone. Then set how fast you ride, what the ground looks like and what you weigh, and you get the window to plan a ride inside.

The Bike Cave Verdict
Ben's First Take
No Cave Score yet. Ben scores bikes he has ridden, and this one is still on its way. What follows is a read of the spec sheet, not a review.
I haven't ridden this one yet, so no score and no verdict until I have. What I can tell you from the spec sheet: it's the King Goat's mid-drive in the Motor Goat frame, with both batteries in the box instead of one. That was my one gripe with buying a Goat, paying extra for the second pack, and GOAT fixed it here. Twelve kilowatts peak through a chain and 380 Nm in a bike this size is going to be a very different animal from the hub-motor Motor Goat. One is coming to the channel, and this page gets the real numbers, the GPS speed and my Cave Score the day that review goes up.
👍 What stands out on paper
- King Goat mid-drive: 5,000W rated, 12,000W peak, 380 Nm through the chain
- Both packs stock, 50Ah combined, two chargers in the box
- Kinetic Energy Recovery tops the packs up any time the motor is off
- Trama inverted fork, Fastace rear shock, Karasawa 4-piston DOT brakes
- Self-repairing tubeless Innova tires as standard
- Same price in either colour, no pedal delete to pay for
👎 What to know
- Not ridden yet: every number here is GOAT's, not mine
- Preorder only, first shipment lands early October and it's limited
- 217 lbs with both packs, and the frame pack alone is 62 lbs
- Short seat only; no long-seat option like the Power Goat MD
- Ships locked to 20 mph; unlocking it and riding it that way is on you
Frequently asked questions
Is the Motor Goat MD just a Motor Goat V3 with a bigger motor?
No. The V3 is a hub-motor bike. The MD moves to the patent-pending mid-drive from the King Goat, which drives the rear wheel through the chain. That's why the torque figure jumps to 380 Nm and the peak to 12,000W, and it's also why it needs pedals and a crank: the chain is doing the work.
How big is the battery?
Two packs, both included: a 72V 30Ah Samsung pack in the frame and a 72V 20Ah tank-style pack on top, 50Ah combined, or about 3,600 Wh. Each pack gets its own 84V 8A charger. GOAT quotes three to four hours to full.
How far will it go?
GOAT's numbers: up to 150 miles with pedal assist, 125 in Eco under 20 mph, 75 in Normal and 50 in Sport above 50 mph. Those are best-case, light-rider figures. Use the range calculator on this page with your own weight and speed for a realistic window, and expect a real-world test from me once the bike arrives.
How fast is it?
As shipped, 20 mph on the throttle and 25 mph on pedal assist, which keeps it a Class 2 e-bike. Unlocked for off-road use, GOAT claims 75 mph. That's a manufacturer figure until I put a GPS on it.
Motor Goat MD or Power Goat MD?
Same motor, same forks, same brakes, same $4,499. The Motor Goat MD gets a short seat and two Samsung packs totalling 50Ah, and weighs 217 lbs. The Power Goat MD gets the 62.5Ah SVolt frame pack, a three-foot seat for a passenger, twin rear shocks, a front footrest and a 550 lb load rating, at 227 lbs. Solo rider wanting the lighter bike: Motor Goat MD. Two-up or maximum range: Power Goat MD.
