Ben rode the black one with red accents. His words on the other colour: "they also make it in a louder yellow. So if you want to make a statement, that one's for you." Valtinsu calls it Neon Lime.

What Stood Out
Power, Handling and Suspension

Power & Throttle
Three power modes, and a throttle Ben would not change.
45 mph Measured, 52 Claimed
With Ben at about 200 lbs the GPS showed 45 mph in mode 3. With the wheel in the air it read 51.8: "pretty close, 51.8. But that's with no weight on it." Lighter riders will land closer to 50, heavier ones closer to 40.
Modes 1, 2 and 3: 21, 32 and 45 mph
Mode 1 topped out at 21 mph on GPS and still beat a lot of regular e-bikes to 20 mph inside 60 to 70 feet. Mode 2 hit 32 to 33. Mode 3 is full power, and the front wheel came up on its own.
No Dead Spot in the Throttle
"From a crawl, all I have to do is just this, like, literally an eighth of an inch, and I'm already getting power." It can crawl at 2 mph in mode 3, and snapped open it is instant torque: "a lot more of an advanced tune on this bike."

Handling & Fit
Sized for adults, and it shows.
One of the Best-Handling E-Motos
The battery sits between the rider's knees, so the weight is dead centre. "One of the best feeling emotos I've been on probably ever. Like this is very close to the top, if not the top, as far as handling goes."
Flat-Footed at 5'9"
Valtinsu lists the seat at 31.5 inches. Ben flat-footed it, called the bars "Cinderella bars" (not too tall, not too wide), and said the firm seat will soften as it wears in.
Road-Friendly Tires
The 17-inch front (70/100) and 14-inch rear (90/100) knobbies have lugs close together on a stiffer compound: "you don't feel the lugs on them. They don't vibrate at all." They should last longer too.

Suspension & Brakes
Stiff enough for a 200 lb rider.
It Would Not Bottom Out
An inverted fork up front and a coil-over rear shock with an air spring (the valve is under the seat) with a preload ring. "I cannot bottom it out, and I'm 200 pounds." Potholes gave no rattles and nothing came loose.
4-Piston Front Caliper, Floating Rear
Ben had never seen this front caliper and rotor before, and said the levers felt familiar. On the 28 mph brake test the rear stepped out a little, on a wet foggy road, and it stopped a bit past some other bikes but "still well within a respectable distance".
Battery Slides Out of the Frame
It sits under the seat, held by a bracket, and the charging port is spliced straight into the main cable. You can charge it on the bike or take it indoors for winter.
Heads Up Before You Ride
Locked at 20 mph? Hold M and Minus
Ben's bike shipped speed-limited. Yours might too.
On day one Ben's EM-5 Pro would not go past 20 mph in any mode. He could not find a video on it, so he emailed Valtinsu. The fix: "The M and the minus button, you hold them together. Watch the screen. Five seconds. Boom. You start blinking 10 there and now 52 miles an hour."
He suspects dealers in different countries get different versions, or that newer bikes ship limited because laws are getting tighter. It is a speed limiter, so check the rules where you ride before you change it. The 21, 32 and 45 mph figures on the left are Ben's GPS readings with about 200 lbs aboard, after the unlock.

Size & Fittings
Valtinsu EM-5 Pro 17″ front · 14″ rear
Ben is 5'9″ and about 200 lbs. He flat-foots the bike and says the bars are "nice and wide" with a little back sweep.
Will It Fit You?
- Seat height31.5 in (Valtinsu)
- Wheelbase41.7 in (Valtinsu)
- Handlebar width27.2 in (Valtinsu)
- Max rider load287 lbs (Valtinsu)
- Bike weight143 lbs net (Valtinsu)
- Ben's height and weight5'9″, about 200 lbs
Ben rode it at 5'9″ and close to 200 lbs, and the stock suspension still did not bottom out. His advice: if you are near the weight limit, look for something rated for 300 lbs or more. Dimensions are Valtinsu's numbers; Ben did not tape-measure the bike on camera.
Plan Your Ride
Your Range, Not Mine
Ben rode 18 miles hard with two bars left and 57.2V showing, and figured about 25 miles total, not 30. Rider weight, hills and how much you pin the throttle move that a lot. Set your own numbers below.

Power figures depend on where you look: Ben saw listings at 4,000W, 5,600W and 6,000W, all with the same 240 Nm and 52 mph claims. Valtinsu's own page says 5,600W peak and 2,500W rated. Ben did not measure power directly and did not get a timed 0 to 20 mph number, so none is quoted here.
The Bike Cave Verdict
Ben's Final Thoughts
Who's the EM5 Pro really for? Well, first thing that comes to mind is if you're too big for the EM5, the little 12 and 14 set up, you hop onto this. You get bigger wheels, of course. You get better higher ground clearance. You go over bumps way better with the larger diameter tires. And you get a ton more power. This is a nice bike. If you're under 200 pounds, on the 150 range, and you want something with good suspension, a ton of power and something that won't fall apart on you, come check out the EM5 Pro. You will not be disappointed. This might be one of the only motos that I actually keep for a little while. I'm just having so much fun on it.
No Cave Score on this one yet. Ben hasn't recorded a number for the EM-5 Pro, so this page shows none rather than a guess.
👍 What Ben liked
- Throttle with no dead spot, from a 2 mph crawl to instant torque
- Handling: "one of the best feeling emotos I've been on probably ever"
- Suspension that would not bottom out at 200 lbs
- Put together in about 20 minutes, with nothing rattling loose
- Road-friendly knobbies on a stiffer compound that should last
- Full power still there at two battery bars: about 30 mph uphill
👎 What to know
- Ben's bike shipped locked at 20 mph and he had to email Valtinsu to find the unlock
- No turn signals and no brake light
- About 25 miles of range ridden hard, nowhere near the 59 miles claimed
- Screen is not very bright, and the seat is on the firm side
- Over 200 lbs and racing? Ben would look at a bigger 72V bike
Frequently asked questions
How fast is the Valtinsu EM-5 Pro?
Valtinsu claims 52 mph. On our GPS, Ben (about 200 lbs) reached 45 mph in power mode 3. With the wheel in the air and no rider weight it read 51.8 mph. In modes 1 and 2 he saw 21 and 32 to 33 mph.
Why is my EM-5 Pro stuck at 20 mph?
Ben's bike arrived limited to 20 mph even in power mode 3. On the display, hold the M and minus buttons together for about five seconds until the number blinks, then change it to 52. It is a speed limiter, so check the laws where you ride before you remove it.
How far does the EM-5 Pro go on a charge?
Valtinsu claims 59 miles. Ben rode 18 miles hard and had two battery bars left at 57.2 volts, and estimates about 25 miles total, not 30, riding the way he did. Rider weight, hills and how much throttle you use change it a lot.
Should I buy the EM-5 or the EM-5 Pro?
Ben's take: if you are a full-grown adult, skip the smaller 12 and 14 inch EM-5. The Pro has 17 and 14 inch wheels, stiffer suspension, a bigger battery and more power, and it is rated to 287 lbs.
