Velotric Discover 2

One of the nicest commuter-style ebikes I've ever had on the channel. Velotric quotes 28 mph — it hit 29 mph on the throttle, and the brakes hauled it down from 28 mph inside my 20 ft marker. Super smooth motor, switchable torque and cadence sensors, and fully equipped out of the box.

Throttle only on the flat test island, against a quoted 28 mph. “How refreshing is that? A company that undersells their bike.”

Ben climbing the 15% grade hill on the Discover 2
Hill Climb12+ mph on a 15% grade

Throttle only up the steepest hill on the route, holding 13 to 14 mph the whole way. “And I didn't go below 12. Wow.”

Braking20 ft from 28 mph

Slammed to a stop on damp, leafy pavement — inside the 20 foot marker. “Well, there you go Velotric, you have done it again. Perfectly suited brakes.”

Launching the Discover 2 from a standstill in the acceleration test
Acceleration0–20 mph, throttle only

Launched from the light pole, hit 20 before my driveway marker. “20 miles an hour in a pretty short distance. That's really nice. And then it just wants to keep going.”

Ben starting the range check on the Discover 2
Range Check62% left after 11 mi

Full boost, pedal assist 5, barely pedaling. That works out to roughly 20–25 miles throttle-only, or 30+ with pedaling and lower power modes — well under the 75 mile spec.

Phone GPS speedometer held next to the Discover 2 display
GPS Speed Check18 = 18 on GPS

Display checked against a phone GPS speedometer at 16 to 19 mph. “18 on the bike, 18 on the speedometer. It is bang on, so we can trust this.”

About these numbers: I ride at about 190 lb with all my gear on, the brake test ran on damp, leafy pavement, and the display was verified against a phone GPS speedometer before trusting any of the speeds. Range figures come from a real 11-mile check in full boost, not the brochure.

The Bike Cave Verdict

Ben's Take

The Discover 2 is one of the nicest commuter-style ebikes I've ever had on the channel — for bike quality I'm giving it a solid 9.5 out of 10. Everything feels tight and quality, it's UL and ISO certified, and how refreshing is a company that undersells their bike: they claim 28 mph and it goes a little over. The brakes stopped me from 28 mph within my 20 foot marker, the hill climb never dropped below 12 mph, and the motor is just super smooth. Velotric wanted this to be the most comfortable commuter ebike on the market right now, and I think they nailed it — whether you want a quality commuter, can't decide between a cadence and torque sensor, or you're a smaller rider.

👍 What I loved

  • Undersells its top speed: quoted 28 mph, hit 29 on the throttle
  • Switchable torque and cadence sensor in the app — first bike I've tested with both
  • Super smooth motor and excellent hill climbing — never below 12 mph on a 15% grade
  • Perfectly suited brakes: stopped from 28 mph within the 20 ft marker
  • One of the nicest front forks I've felt on a commuter ebike — damp, no clunk
  • Fully equipped out of the box: fenders, rack, lights, Apple Find My, UL and ISO certified

👎 What to know

  • Real-world throttle-only range is about 20–25 miles, far under the quoted 75 mile spec
  • Slick 2.4 in tires don't have a ton of grip on gravel and won't do well on the beach
  • Headlight looks pretty little, though it's punchy
  • No rear suspension on the hardtail frame — comfort relies on the cushy sprung seat
