Velotric Nomad 2

The paper says 28 mph — mine hit 30 mph on GPS, and the 90 Nm motor pulled 17 mph up a 15% grade. Add an RST fork that feels more premium than 90% of the e-bikes in the cave and a suspension seatpost that actually works, and this fat tire bike never feels underpowered.

Boost mode, throttle only, checked on GPS — the readout climbed 27, 28, 29, then 30 against a 28 mph claim. “How refreshing is that, when a brand can just undersell their product?”

Hill Climb17 mph uphill

Up a roughly 15% grade in pedal assist 5, boost mode — and the 90 Nm hub held it the whole way. “17 miles per hour uphill? For a 48-volt motor, this is as good as it gets.”

Acceleration20 mph off the line

Throttle only in boost mode from the lamp pole — it reached 20 mph before the driveway pullout marker, no problems whatsoever. “This bike just doesn't give you the feeling of being underpowered, it's got a really decent amount of grunt.”

Brake test run on the Nomad 2 with the speedo climbing toward 28 mph
Braking20 ft from 28 mph

Speedo climbing 22 to 28 mph, then hard on the levers on partly wet roads — it stopped inside my measured 20-foot zone. “Velotric didn't make the brakes on this bike, they outfitted this bike with good quality brakes. That's it. Nice work.”

About these numbers: Every run was done in boost mode with speeds checked on GPS, throttle-only where noted. The brake test happened on partly wet roads — and it still stopped inside my measured 20-foot zone.

The Bike Cave Verdict

Ben's Take

The Nomad 2 is a really well equipped fat tire e-bike, and it just doesn't give you the feeling of being underpowered. The RST front fork feels so much more premium than 90% of the e-bikes we get here on the channel, and the suspension seatpost actually works — I felt like I had rear suspension going over potholes. The motor genuinely feels like it's got 90 newton meters, and 17 miles per hour uphill for a 48-volt motor is as good as it gets. It even hit 30 miles per hour on GPS when the paper says 28 — how refreshing is that, when a brand can just undersell their product? It's a bit heavy to pedal with no power, I'm not going to lie, but once those big fat tires start spinning you get momentum on your side.

👍 What I loved

  • RST hydraulic front fork feels more premium than 90% of e-bikes on the channel
  • Suspension seatpost actually works — felt like rear suspension over potholes
  • Motor is genuinely strong — its 90 Nm is real on the road, not just on paper
  • Shimano 8-speed Rapidfire shifter feels high-end next to most clunky e-bike shifters
  • Kenda fat tires grip dirt and gravel with no slipping, yet run quiet and smooth on pavement
  • Beat its own claimed top speed and stopped within the 20-foot brake test

👎 What to know

  • Heavy to pedal with no power — the big 26×4 fat tires take real force to get spinning
  • Unbranded cranks and pretty generic pedals
  • The suspension seatpost isn't true full suspension, and I'm not sure it has any adjustability
