Himiway D5 2.0 20"
A compact, full-suspension 20-inch e-bike for a very wide range of riders: 4'11" to 6'3", 750W and 90 Nm, torque and cadence sensors, UL certified. Ben's read: very premium feeling, very tunable, and one of the most comfortable bikes he has been on.

What Makes The Himiway D5 2.0 (20") Tick

Suspension & Frame
Full suspension, 20" step-through
Rear linkage
Ben: “This is one of the most intricate and well leveraged suspension linkages I've ever seen.” Only preload is adjustable, and he calls it set and forget.
Front fork
Compression, preload and lockout. Damped, no spring-back, and it feels premium to him.
Adjustable fit
The stem tilts from zero to 60 degrees, the bars move in and out and there is a lot of seat post. Himiway lists 4'11" to 6'3".

Motor & Settings
750W hub, 90 Nm, torque and cadence sensors
Tunable power
Class 1, 2 or 3, torque limits per mode, power start and power end tuning, cruise control and a torque or cadence switch. Ben: probably the most tuneability he has seen on a bike like this.
Quiet and punchy
The motor is silent and, in his words, it feels like more than 750W. In class 3 turbo it reached 28 mph, and 30 mph with pedalling.
Range
14 miles, mostly throttle with hills and speed runs, took the 15Ah battery to about 20%. His rule of one mile per amp hour held.

Brakes & Lights
Tektro, 203 mm front, 180 mm rear
Brakes
Tektro two-piston with a 203 mm front rotor and 180 mm rear. From 28 mph he stopped before the marker.
Integrated lights
Brake lights and turn signals are built into the frame at the back. The front is a small headlight in the battery, with no front signals.
UL certified
Ben stresses that Himiway UL certifies its electronics, which he treats as a reason for the price.

The Cockpit
Plenty Of Settings, Slightly Dim Screen
Color display, remote with turn signals, password-protected menu
The color display shows voltage or percentage, torque or cadence mode, speed, trip, odometer, watts, calories and cadence. The menu is readable in plain English and password protected. It is the one thing Ben would change: he wishes the screen were a little brighter in sun.
The remote has a power button, plus and minus that double as headlight and walk mode, a mode button, turn signals and a thumb throttle, all in one pad. Grips are soft and lock on.

The Bike Cave Verdict
Ben's Take
The D5 2.0 in the 20 inch version, I think it's going to fit a lot of people's requirements and needs for an e-bike. It's perfectly legal anywhere you want to go, any street, any state. It's 750 watts. Class one, class two or class three, you choose. It only goes 30 miles an hour with pedal assist, but that's fast enough if you ask me for a bicycle.
Someone that's going to want to buy this is going to value two things. Comfort. The suspension on this bike is insanely active, it's insanely comfortable. This seat is amazing, one of the nicest seats I've been on in a long, long time.
The second thing you're going to value if you want to buy this bike is quality. It's a two thousand dollar bike.
Ben did not give this bike a Cave Score in the review, so there is no number here.
👍 What I loved
- “One of the smoothest rear suspension linkages I've seen in a long time” that rivals the Magician Alpha
- A seat he called one of the most comfortable in a long, long while
- Fits 4'11" to 6'3" with a tilting stem and a long seat post
- 28 mph on the GPS in class 3, as claimed
- A 203 mm front rotor: it stopped before the marker from 28 mph
- Torque and cadence sensors, cruise control and deep power tuning
👎 What to know
- The screen could be brighter in direct sun
- Throttle did not follow the power modes in the stock tune
- The thumb throttle is jumpy in rapid response mode
- Derailleur hit the frame and rattled in the lowest gear
- Not a torque monster: 90 Nm is enough for hard pack, bogs in loose sand
- $2,000 for a 20-inch bike is steep, as Ben says; no front turn signals
