Lectric XPedition2
Lectric flew me to their Phoenix HQ and handed me the brand new XPedition 2.0 — so I took it into 104°F desert heat and ran the usual tests. It's long, it's stable, it stops better than it has any right to, and they upgraded almost every component without raising the price.

PAS 5, flat canal path, quoted at 28. We got there and it held. “25, 26, 27, 28 — no problems. It feels like it wants to do more. It feels like it just stops you at 28.”

Throttle only, from a dead stop, no pedalling. “10 miles an hour… 15… 18… and 20. Not bad acceleration.” After that it's on you to pedal for the last 8 mph.

Marker to lamp pole, roughly 20 ft, hydraulic discs, blistering-hot pavement. “What?! There's still like a good bike length right here… as far as braking's concerned, this bike gets a check.”

Up to speed, then a run of turns on a frame far longer than anything I normally ride. “Wow, it is so smooth. Not as twitchy as the shorter bikes, but very stable — no speed wobble, no nothing.”

Not built to be an off-road weapon, but the dual 50 mm spring fork is a genuine upgrade. “It sure won't shy away from any grass or some light trails… a perfect blend of plush and support.”

Honest answer: Phoenix gave us nothing to climb. “The route Mike and I took was fairly flat — but both Mike and I could definitely feel the torque in this bike… this thing is consistently putting out 600, 700 watts.”

The Bike Cave Verdict
Ben's Take
Million dollar question — who is the new XPedition 2.0 really for? Someone who wants to carry a lot of stuff, or a lot of extra little people. But the person who buys this bike is going to value three things. One is cargo capacity — and I'm not just talking about the 450 lb payload, I'm talking about the quality cargo options Lectric gives you, like the dual kid carrier or those super high-quality pannier bags. Two is range options: giving customers the choice between 13, 26 and 35 amp hours was a really smart move, and other than a really restricted budget I don't see why you wouldn't go for the 35 — having your range anxiety just melt away makes owning a bike like this very enjoyable. Three is value. Lectric made a very good bike here and upgraded pretty much every component from the original XPedition, which was already a bestseller. The new bike feels so polished and it has every UL certification you'd want — and they did all of that without increasing their prices.
👍 What stands out
- Braking is the standout — stopped inside 20 ft from 27 mph with a bike length to spare
- Rock-solid at speed: “very stable — no speed wobble, no nothing”
- Real 28 mph pedalling, 20 mph on throttle alone, and it feels like there's more back there
- Torque you can feel — a steady 600–700W under load, with a tweakable in-house torque sensor
- 450 lb payload plus genuinely good cargo accessories — a real car replacement
- Three battery choices (13 / 26 / 35 Ah) and no price increase despite tariffs
👎 What to know
- Hard-capped at 28 mph — “it feels like it just stops you at 28”
- Couldn't run a hill climb — the Phoenix route was flat, so climbing is untested
- No rear suspension (by design, for cargo capacity) — budget for a suspension seat post
- Long frame takes getting used to and is a handful to park and store
- The big range numbers need the paid dual-battery upgrade
Frequently asked questions
How fast is the Lectric XPedition 2?
28 mph pedalling in Class 3, which Ben measured, and 20 mph on the throttle alone. The cap is firm rather than gradual — in Ben's words, it feels like it just stops you at 28. It's selectable between Class 1, 2 and 3, so you can drop it to path-legal limits when you need to.
How much can the XPedition 2 carry?
450 lbs total payload, which includes you, and 300 lbs on the rear rack. Subtract your own weight from 450 and what's left is your real cargo budget. The number Ben rates higher than the payload figure is the accessory range — the dual kid carrier and the pannier bags are the reason this works as a car replacement.
Which battery should you choose?
Lectric offers 13Ah, 26Ah and 35Ah. Ben's recommendation is the 35Ah unless the budget is genuinely tight — the big range numbers on the spec sheet only exist with the paid dual-battery upgrade, and having range anxiety disappear is most of what makes a cargo bike pleasant to own.
What's the real-world range?
Lectric claims 60 miles on the single 624Wh battery and up to 170 miles on the dual setup. Those are manufacturer figures measured at low assist with a light load — a cargo bike carrying cargo, stopping and starting through a neighbourhood, will do meaningfully less. Buy battery capacity rather than trusting the headline mileage.
How well does it stop with a load on?
Braking is the standout of the whole bike in Ben's testing: it stopped inside 20 feet from 27 mph with a bike length to spare. It was also rock solid at speed — no speed wobble, nothing — which is not a given on a frame this long.
Can the XPedition 2 climb hills?
We don't know, and we're not going to guess. Ben's test route in Phoenix was flat canal paths and Papago Park, so there was no hill climb in this review. What was measured is a steady 600 to 700W draw under load through the in-house torque sensor, which is a promising sign but not a substitute for a real climb test.
